Ascension scrub and grasslands

WWF Abstract

Because it sits on a volcano, the Ascension Scrub and Grasslands ecoregion is literally a hot spot for biodiversity. The ecoregion covers Ascension Island, a dormant volcano that rises from the ocean floor to a height of 2,800 feet (850 m) above sea level. In addition to the shrubs and grasses of this ecoregion, youÂ’ll find a diversity of other species, from flowering plants to breeding sea birds.
